About Alder & Stone

Landscapes shaped by the place they’re in.

We’re a small design-build studio that’s spent fourteen years learning what actually holds up — and looks good doing it — in Seattle’s climate.

Our Story

Started with one truck and a Ballard lawn route.

Alder & Stone began in 2012 as a two-person mowing and pruning crew working a handful of blocks in Ballard. What we kept hearing from clients was the same thing: they didn’t just want their yard maintained, they wanted it designed — something that felt intentional, not just tidy.

So we brought on a landscape designer, then a hardscape crew, then a lighting specialist — slowly building the in-house team it takes to carry a project from a napkin sketch to a finished stone patio without handing it off to three different subcontractors along the way. Fourteen years later, that’s still how we work: one studio, one point of contact, start to finish.

Today Alder & Stone is a full design-build studio serving Seattle and the greater Puget Sound area, with a crew of eighteen and a portfolio of over 260 residential gardens, patios, and outdoor living spaces.

Our Mission

Design outdoor spaces that fit how the Pacific Northwest actually lives — wet winters, long summer evenings, and all.

Not a look borrowed from somewhere sunnier. A garden that drains well in November, glows in July, and gets better looking every year instead of high-maintenance.

What Makes Us Different

Six things clients bring up again and again.

One crew, start to finish

Design, hardscape, planting, and lighting are all done in-house — no subcontractor hand-offs, no lost details.

Built for this climate

Plant palettes and drainage plans chosen for Seattle rainfall and soil, not stock lists pulled from a national catalog.

Licensed & insured

Fully bonded Washington State contractor — every crew member, every job, no exceptions.

Fixed-bid pricing

You get a firm number before we break ground, with material choices laid out so there’s no scope creep later.

We stick around

Seasonal maintenance plans mean the same team that built your garden is the one keeping it thriving next spring.

Design you can preview

3D concept renderings and material boards before construction — you approve the look before a single stone moves.
